On eBay, “no returns” doesn’t mean what it says. If a used driver turns up with a cracked face the listing never mentioned, eBay’s Money Back Guarantee lets you send it back for a refund within 30 days of delivery, whatever the seller’s policy, and the seller pays the return shipping.
That makes eBay a safer place to buy golf clubs than its reputation suggests. The guarantee won’t stop you paying $60 too much for a club that matches its listing, and it won’t spot a fake that looks fine in photos. Both of those are on you.
The short answer
Buying used golf clubs on eBay is safe if you do three things: pay through eBay’s own checkout so the Money Back Guarantee applies, buy from sellers with a long and clean record, and get the details that set a club’s value, from model year to shaft to a photo of the face. Then pay no more than the target price for that exact club.
Is it safe to buy golf clubs on eBay?
Mostly, because of how eBay’s Money Back Guarantee works. As of October 2026, its terms say:
- It covers three problems. The club never arrives; it doesn’t match the listing (the wrong item, or broken, damaged or faulty without that being clearly described); or the seller doesn’t honor the return policy stated in the listing.
- You must pay on eBay. The guarantee covers cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and the other methods at eBay checkout. If any part of the payment happens outside eBay, by bank transfer, cash, money order or escrow, none of it is.
- You have 30 days. You can open a “not as described” return up to 30 calendar days after the estimated or actual delivery date, or within the seller’s own return window if that’s longer.
- The seller gets 3 business days to respond. If they don’t, or you can’t agree, you can ask eBay to step in.
- “No returns” only covers a change of mind. A club that matches its listing but doesn’t suit you can go back only if the seller accepts returns. A club that doesn’t match its listing can go back regardless.
- Fakes are covered. If there are strong signs an item is counterfeit, you still request a return, but you may not have to ship it back to the seller.
Two things fall outside it: shipping you arrange yourself, such as sending a courier to collect, and a deal finished off-site. A seller who suggests settling “directly” to save on fees is asking you to give up your protection.
Are there fake golf clubs on eBay?
Yes. Callaway’s own counterfeit warning names eBay among the online and auction sites where counterfeiters pass off fakes of its clubs as new and genuine. TaylorMade says that authorized TaylorMade accounts may list genuine new products on eBay but must register with it to do so, and it publishes the list. Buy a new TaylorMade club on eBay from someone not on that list, TaylorMade warns, and the chance it’s counterfeit is much greater. Titleist’s counterfeit report form even has boxes for the eBay seller name and auction number.
Don’t expect eBay to check for you. Under its Authenticity Guarantee, eBay sends an item to an independent authenticator before it reaches you, but the program covers sneakers, handbags, watches, jewelry, streetwear, trading cards and coins. Golf clubs aren’t on the list.
Fakes cluster where the money is: current drivers and putters from the biggest brands, listed as new. A used club from an older model is a far smaller risk, because there’s little profit in faking a five-year-old hybrid.
Read the seller before the listing
Four things about the seller matter more than anything in the description.
- Feedback count and score. Thousands of ratings at 99% or better is a seller with a reputation to protect. A handful of ratings, or a brand-new account listing several current drivers, is a reason to stop.
- The negative comments. Read the recent ones. “Not as described” and “condition worse than photos” matter; a late package doesn’t.
- What else they list. A store with hundreds of graded clubs, or a golfer clearing out a garage, are both normal. A stream of new, current-model clubs at the same low price is not.
- Where it ships from. A “new” club shipping from overseas is one of the clearest warning signs of a fake.
Some of the big used-club stores sell on eBay too: Callaway Golf Pre-Owned runs an eBay store, and 2nd Swing lists there. Their listings use their own condition grades, so you get a store’s grading with eBay’s guarantee on top.
What a good listing tells you
A club’s value depends on its exact model and spec, so a listing that leaves out the details is asking you to guess. Ask before you buy; an honest seller answers quickly.
| Detail | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Model and model year | Names repeat. There have been four TaylorMade P790 iron sets since 2019 alone, and their targets ran from $600 to $934 when we checked in October 2026. |
| Loft | On the sole or the adjustable sleeve. A driver in an uncommon loft is a different buy from a 10.5°. |
| Shaft maker, model, weight and flex | “Stiff” isn’t enough. A photo of the shaft label settles it, and a premium aftermarket shaft can add real value. |
| Hand and length | Left-handed clubs have prices of their own. A shortened or extended club should say so. |
| Photos of the face, sole and crown | The face is where damage hides. Stock photos show you someone else’s club. |
| What’s included | Headcover, and on adjustable woods the sleeve and wrench. Price a head without its adapter as a head. |
| For a set, the exact clubs | 4–PW, 5–PW, 5–GW. A set with a gap is worth noticeably less than a complete one. |
Red flags: the listings to skip
- A brand-new current model far under the target. New should cost more than used. If a “new” club costs less than its used target, assume it’s fake.
- Stock photos only, or photos of “a” club rather than this one. Counterfeiters show a photo of a genuine club and ship something else, PING warns.
- No face photo, and no reply when you ask for one.
- A vague title. “TaylorMade driver 10.5 stiff” with no model or year means the seller doesn’t know, or hopes you won’t check.
- An “iron set” with no list of clubs.
- A story. Callaway notes that counterfeit sellers often say the clubs were won in a raffle or tournament, or were an unwanted gift.
- Any request to pay outside eBay. It voids the Money Back Guarantee.
TaylorMade, Callaway and irons: what to pay on eBay
These are the targets for popular TaylorMade and Callaway drivers and iron sets, from our algorithm’s prices today: about what a buyer pays for each in typical used condition. Each links to its page, with every live listing under the target, cheapest first and shipping included.
| Club | Year | Target price, used |
|---|---|---|
| TaylorMade Qi10 Max driver | 2024 | $295 |
| TaylorMade Stealth 2 driver | 2023 | $248 |
| TaylorMade SIM2 Max driver | 2021 | $274 |
| TaylorMade M6 driver | 2019 | $201 |
| Callaway Elyte driver | 2025 | $235 |
| Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max driver | 2024 | $246 |
| Callaway Rogue ST Max driver | 2022 | $245 |
| Callaway Epic Flash driver | 2019 | $149 |
| TaylorMade P790 irons | 2023 | $780 |
| TaylorMade Stealth irons | 2022 | $496 |
| Callaway Apex 21 irons | 2021 | $509 |
| Titleist T100 irons | 2023 | $734 |
Callaway drivers bunch up: in October 2026, a 2022 Rogue ST Max had a target of $245 and a 2025 Elyte $252, so three years of newer cost $7. And TaylorMade’s best value sits a generation or two back. The Qi10 Max, its 10K-forgiveness driver, was $319 against $254 for a Stealth 2, and an M6 was $204, about 40% of its $499.99 launch price.
Irons are where eBay shoppers lose the most to a missing model year. Four generations of P790 look alike in a thumbnail and are hundreds of dollars apart, so confirm the year before you compare prices.
Making an offer, and when to bid
Many club listings take offers, and plenty of sellers price high expecting to be talked down. eBay’s Best Offer rules, as of October 2026:
- The seller has 24 hours to accept, decline or counter. If they counter, you have 4 days to answer.
- You get up to 3 offers on most items, and declined, expired and retracted ones all count.
- An offer is for the item price only. Shipping and the listing’s other terms stay as they are, so build the shipping into your number.
- Accepted isn’t bought. Until you pay, the club is still available to anyone else, unless you set up automatic payment when you make the offer.
- Watching works. If you add a listing to your watchlist or cart, the seller can send you an offer. Old listings tend to be more flexible; eBay itself suggests checking how long one has been up.
Our rule: over the target, offer near the target. Already under it, don’t haggle a good deal away; someone else will pay the asking price. For auctions, decide your ceiling before the final minutes and set it at the target, less shipping. Once the bidding passes the target, let the club go: the winner is paying more than a typical used one costs.
Count the landed price. A driver at $230 plus $25 shipping costs more than one at $250 with free shipping. ClubChecks shows every target and every listing with shipping included, so the comparison is already done.
Questions
Is it safe to buy golf clubs on eBay?
Generally yes, if you pay through eBay’s checkout. The eBay Money Back Guarantee refunds a club that never arrives or doesn’t match its listing, with a return request allowed up to 30 days after delivery, even when the seller doesn’t accept returns. Payments made partly outside eBay aren’t covered.
Are there fake golf clubs on eBay?
Yes, mostly current drivers and putters from the biggest brands, listed as new. eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee doesn’t cover golf clubs, so check the price and the seller yourself.
Can you return used golf clubs on eBay?
If the club doesn’t match the listing, yes: open a return within 30 days of delivery, or the seller’s window if longer, and the seller pays return shipping. If it matches and you’ve changed your mind, only when the seller accepts returns.
What should a used golf club listing on eBay include?
The model and model year, loft, shaft and flex, hand, and real photos of the face, sole, crown and shaft label. For a set, the exact clubs. If anything is missing, ask first.
How much should I offer for used golf clubs on eBay?
Near the ClubChecks target price for that exact club, less any shipping. Offers cover the item price only, and you get up to three on most listings. If the listing is already under the target, buying at the asking price is usually the smarter move.
Are eBay golf club auctions cheaper than Buy It Now?
Not reliably. Some auctions end cheap and some run well past what the club is worth. Set your maximum at the target, less shipping, and stop there; a Buy It Now listing under the target is the surer deal.
