A Scotty Cameron Special Select Newport 2 cost $399 when it reached North American shops on January 24, 2020. In October 2026, its used target was $283, 71% of that, more than six years on. TaylorMade’s SIM driver, in stores two weeks later at $549.99, was worth $234: 43%.
That makes a used putter a different buy from a used driver. You save less up front, and you lose little if it doesn’t work out. Not every putter holds its value like a Scotty, though, and the ones that don’t are where the best deals are.
The short answer
Yes, used putters are worth it, as long as you buy your length first and the brand second. The best value is a premium putter from a line that didn’t hold its price: the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K ($129) and the TaylorMade TP Reserve ($168) both launched at $399.99. Under $100, a Ping Anser 2 ($83). For a mallet, the TaylorMade Spider Tour ($261); for a Scotty, the Special Select ($288).
Are used putters worth it?
Putters lose value more slowly than any other club, but how slowly depends on the line. Our October 2026 targets:

|---|---|---|---|---|
| TaylorMade Spider ZT | Jun 2025 | $449.99 | $355 | 79% |

| TaylorMade Spider Tour | Oct 2023 | $349.99 | $254 | 73% |
| Scotty Cameron Special Select Newport 2 | Jan 2020 | $399 | $283 | 71% |
| Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2.5 Plus | Mar 2023 | $449 | $307 | 68% |
| Bettinardi Queen B 6 | 2023 | $430 | $291 | 68% |
| Ping Anser 2D (2023 line) | Sep 2022 | $300 | $176 | 59% |
| Odyssey Ai-One | Nov 2023 | $299.99 | $173 | 58% |
| TaylorMade TP Reserve B29 | Jun 2023 | $399.99 | $180 | 45% |
| Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Two | Feb 2022 | $399.99 | $145 | 36% |
| TaylorMade SIM driver, for comparison | Feb 2020 | $549.99 | $234 | 43% |
Age explains some of it: the Spider ZT and the Studio Style were about a year and a half old. The older putters near the top share two things. Their shapes barely change from one generation to the next: Scotty Cameron has made a Newport 2 in the Special Select, Super Select and Studio Style lines, and a golfer who wants that shape doesn’t much care which one it is. And they’re the names buyers search for. There’s no ball-speed race to make last year’s putter obsolete, and a few scratches on the sole don’t change how it rolls.
The ones at the bottom are fine putters that fewer buyers are hunting for, which is where you find the deals. Beyond the discount, you can try a used putter for the little it will lose: buy at or under the target, and if it doesn’t suit you after a month, sell it on for close to what you paid. The exception is a putter built to order, because a used one was built for someone else’s stroke.
Every pick
Grouped by what they cost used. The last column is our algorithm’s target price today, about what a buyer pays for one in typical used condition; each links to the putter’s own page with every live listing under it. The rest are on our used putters page, and every Scotty we price is on the Scotty Cameron page.

Putters under $100
Of the 153 putters we price, 21 had targets under $100 in October 2026. They’re older and plainer than the ones on TV, which matters less with a putter than with any other club.
The Ping Anser 2 ($83) is our pick: Ping’s classic heel-and-toe-weighted blade, with 40 live listings at its last check, so your length is easy to find. If you want a mallet, the Cleveland Frontline 10.5 ($86) is the one at this price. Odyssey’s White Hot 1 ($78) is the other blade worth a look.
Under $100, check condition first. Look at the face and the grip in the photos. A worn grip means buying a new one, which is a big share of a putter this cheap.
Putters under $200: buy a premium line that didn’t hold
More than half the putters we price, 81 of 153, had targets under $200 in October 2026. This is where most golfers should buy, and where the biggest discounts on premium putters sit.
Our advice: a premium putter that lost its value beats a mid-priced one that kept it. Odyssey’s Tri-Hot 5K reached stores on February 4, 2022, at $399.99, with a front section milled from 303 stainless, an aluminum back and tungsten in the heel and toe; the Two, a blade, had a target of $145 when we checked. TaylorMade’s TP Reserve, milled from 303 stainless, reached shops on June 23, 2023, at the same $399.99, and the B29 blade was at $180. Either is a $400 putter for well under half of it.
For something newer, the Odyssey Ai-One ($168) arrived on November 3, 2023, at $299.99, with an insert designed using Callaway’s artificial intelligence, which Odyssey says keeps ball speed more consistent on off-center putts.
Ping’s are the steady choice: the Anser 2D blade ($223) from the 2023 line, which went on pre-order in September 2022 at $300, or the DS72 mid-mallet ($160). For a Spider without the Spider Tour’s price, the Spider GTx ($176) is a cheaper way in.
$200 and up: Scotty Cameron, Spider, Bettinardi, L.A.B.
Over $200 you’re paying for a name, a milled head or a technology, and you’ll get most of it back when you sell.
The TaylorMade Spider Tour ($261) is the best value here. It reached stores on October 27, 2023, at $349.99, and in October 2026 it cost less used ($254) than a Special Select Newport 2 ($283).
For a Scotty Cameron, buy the Special Select, milled from a solid block of 303 stainless, in blades like the Newport 2 ($288) and mid-mallets like the heel-shafted Del Mar ($280). The Super Select that followed in March 2023 at $449 costs more used, about $327 for a Newport 2.5 Plus, and the 2025 Studio Style, $499 new, more again at $367 for the Newport 2. The extra money buys a newer year of the same shapes. And a Scotty listed far under its target deserves extra suspicion: read our guide to spotting fake golf clubs before you pay for one.
Bettinardi’s Queen B 6 ($288), a 303 stainless blade that cost $430 in 2023, is the choice for a premium blade that isn’t a Scotty.
Then there are the putters built to stop the face twisting. L.A.B. Golf balances its heads with patented Lie Angle Balance, which it says eliminates torque in the stroke, and it builds each custom putter to the buyer’s lie. A used DF3 ($307) is worth buying only if its length and lie are yours; L.A.B. listed a new stock DF3 at $399 and a custom one at $499 when we looked. TaylorMade’s zero-torque Spider ZT ($362), in stores since June 5, 2025, at $449.99, had kept 79% of its price after about 16 months. Plenty of golfers still want to try one.
Blade or mallet?
The choice is about your stroke more than your eye.
- Blades (Anser, Newport, Queen B 6) are small heads with weight at the heel and toe. Most hang toe-down when you balance the shaft on a finger, and the rule of thumb is that they suit a stroke that swings on a gentle arc.
- Mallets (Spider, DS72, Del Mar) put more weight behind and around the face. They twist less on a mishit and suit a straighter back-and-through stroke.
- Zero-torque putters (Spider ZT, L.A.B., Odyssey’s Square 2 Square) go a step further: the maker balances the head so the face resists turning open or shut through the stroke. They look and feel odd at first, which is a good reason to try one used.
If you’re not sure, roll a dozen putts with each kind in a shop, then buy the shape you putt best with, used.
Length and lie: check them before the name
Length is the spec that matters most. Stock putters usually come in 33, 34 and 35 inches: TaylorMade’s Spider ZT does, and so does L.A.B.’s stock Mezz.1 Max. A putter an inch too long or short changes your posture and your eye line, and that matters more than any shape. Measure the putter you use now, or have a fitter measure you, and buy within half an inch of it.
ClubChecks helps with this one. On a putter, pick a length from the row on the result and listings that state a different length drop out. Our algorithm then sets the target for that length alone, and if there isn’t enough to go on yet, we say so.
Lie is the angle of the shaft at address. With the putter soled, the bottom should sit flat: if the toe is in the air, it’s too upright for you; if the heel is, it’s too flat. A fitter can bend most putters a degree or two, so a lie that’s a degree off isn’t a deal-breaker. A used L.A.B. is the exception. L.A.B. builds custom putters at lie angles from 63° to 79.5° and balances each head around the one it was built at, so a used one fits you only if that lie is yours.
Putters won’t get cheap the way drivers do, and that works in your favor. A putter bought at its target this year is likely to be worth close to the same next year, so the cheapest way to find the right one is to buy, putt and sell on until you do.
Questions
Are used putters worth it?
Yes. Putters hold their value better than any other club, so you save less than on a used driver, but you lose little if you sell it on. Buy at or under the target, in your length, and check the face and grip in the photos.
What is the best used putter to buy in 2026?
For value, a premium putter whose price didn’t hold, such as an Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K or a TaylorMade TP Reserve, both $399.99 new and under $200 used. For a mallet, the TaylorMade Spider Tour; for a Scotty Cameron, the Special Select.
What is a good putter under $100?
A Ping Anser 2 blade or a Cleveland Frontline 10.5 mallet. In October 2026, 21 of the 153 putters we price had targets under $100.
What is a good putter under $200?
An Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K, a TaylorMade TP Reserve, an Odyssey Ai-One, or a Ping Anser 2D or DS72. More than half the putters we price had targets under $200 in October 2026.
Is a used Scotty Cameron worth it?
Yes, if you buy the Special Select. In October 2026, a Special Select Newport 2 had kept 71% of its $399 launch price after more than six years, so it costs less than a newer Scotty and will hold most of its value if you sell it on.
Should I buy a blade or a mallet?
A blade suits a stroke that swings on an arc; a mallet suits a straighter stroke and is more forgiving on mishits. Try both in a shop, then buy the shape you putt best with, used.
What length putter should I buy?
The length you putt with now, or the one a fitter gives you. Most stock putters come in 33, 34 or 35 inches. Buy within half an inch of your length, because a putter that’s too long or short changes your posture and eye line.
